Los Angeles Art Walks
Los Angeles is a city with a rich history in the arts. Iconic musicians were born and raised in the city and famous bands from around the world travel here to play at landmark venues. It’s the home of many authors and screenwriters who want to see their vision come to life on the big screen. It’s also a place where artists and painters shine – they are often commissioned to paint large murals on the sides of buildings and to design logos and billboards. Usually, you can see whole rows of prints and original artwork for sale in areas with high foot traffic. All types of art are present at various art walks around Los Angeles. Let’s dive into a few!
Leimert Park Art Walk
The Leimert Park Art Walk takes place in Leimert Park Village. It kicks off the last Sunday of every month at 2:00 p.m. and lasts until 8:00 p.m. Each month features a different theme, and artists and performers from around the city visit to display their art. Paintings, drawings, and more adorn the street, while dancers and musicians put on a show for passersby.
The Leimert Park Art Walk is fairly new; it’s been occurring for a little more than a decade after its first launch in 2010. Learn more about the event here.
NELAart’s Second Saturday Gallery Night
NELAart stands for Northeast Los Angeles Art. There are a number of galleries in the San Gabriel Valley, including Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Cypress Park, Glassell Park, and more. It happens every second Saturday of the month from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
The galleries feature work from various artists and has a number of eateries open for patrons to dine at. The locations are scattered around Figueroa St., York Blvd., Eagle Rock Blvd., and Colorado Blvd, so it’s wise to take a car instead of walking.

Long Beach Art Walk
The Long Beach Art Walk is in Downtown Long Beach. It runs every second Saturday of the month from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. There are no tour guides; visitors can simply choose the route they like best and walk to visit all the spots. There are 10 galleries, 21 murals, and 28 businesses in the district that participate in the art walk.
At the art walk, you can expect to see paintings, sculptures, performance art, live music, trades, and more. It’s also a convenient distance from the beach, so you could make an entire day trip out of the event. Pair everything with delicious food and drink from the local restaurants and bars, and you’ve got a recipe for a great time!

Downtown Culver City Art Walks
Culver City doesn’t have a set schedule for its art events – they used to happen every third Wednesday of the month, or every second Saturday of the month, and now they’re floating events. Various events are hosted throughout the year. The primary Art Walk & Roll Festival, though, tends to happen in October.
Downtown Culver City is a walkable strip that features a lot of businesses, from restaurants to craft stores, and is always bustling with people. It becomes even more energetic and filled when the art walk or any event comes to town.

First Fridays at Abbot Kinney

Every first Friday of the month, Abbot Kinney in Venice hosts an event featuring food trucks, artists, vendors, and more. The event starts at 5:00 p.m. and lasts into the night, closing at 10:00 p.m. The food trucks themselves lure people from every corner of Los Angeles, but so does the art! Many of the artists are Venice locals who reflect the ideals and vibe of the beach community in their work.
Those who wish to operate food trucks have to complete an application, but artists and creators are free to pop by and set up shop. Visitors often spend the day around Venice, hanging out at the beach and checking out local attractions before taking the time to explore what Abbot Kinney has to offer.

Downtown LA Art Walk

Perhaps the most famous of the art walks, Downtown LA’s Art Walk lasts from 12:00 p.m. all the way to 10:00 p.m. It’s located in the financial district of Downtown Los Angeles and has been in operation since 2004. The art walk spans a number of blocks and features dozens of galleries. Vendors and artists line the streets, many of whom have been setting up shop there for years. Museums and warehouses also have installations and various pieces of art inside.
There are equally as many food trucks, street cooks, and restaurants, too. You can visit a number of historic Downtown locations, taking time to go to Grand Central Market or The Last Bookstore. The event has reached hundreds of thousands of individuals over its tenure, and it maintains a large following.

COVID-19 Note
Bear in mind that the art walks are currently in a period of transition or suspension. Some of the art walks have changed time altogether, while others have taken time off. The Downtown LA art walk, for example, is now present every day, while Abbot Kinney’s event has been canceled altogether, pending updates on the virus.
Please be safe and cognizant of other visitors when visiting art walks!
